Poker tilt III
All veteran and skilled poker players advise that for any player who is new to the poker game, it is an extremely basic and essential lesson to know how to minimize tilt situations from happening and neutralizing them if it happens. This would in turn lead to the improvement in the game of the rookie player. As matter of fact the more one plays, the more one can become proof to tilt situation and many experienced poker players, who have played games for thousands of table hours, claim to have become resistant to tilt situation although sometimes even professional gamblers may not be able to avoid it altogether.
A common way to overcome being on tilt is to become indifferent to the result of the game and who is winning the pot, especially in those games where some extraordinary playing condition has resulted in the player’s loss. So, a situation of bad beat when a player has the best hand and builds up the pot by putting a large number of chips in it and still gets beaten must not be brooded as the loss resulted from bad luck and not wrong strategy of play. So, poker is that game of fortune which in the long term is rewarding for correct decisions and play, but may have certain incongruous stroke of luck in the short term.
Playing extremely tightly and only cashing in most advantageous situations and playing passively on other occasions can also help in a player trying to overcome tilt mood. A very common method used by ‘on tilt’ players is to leave the game table for some time till their mind has been cleared and can make decisions judiciously again. If none of these methods are helpful to combat tilt mood, a player should call it a day and quit the game altogether until he has put behind the memory of the game that caused him to tilt. This prevents the player from getting too much hurt financially as continuing to play on tilt exposes him from suffering big losses.
